Expansion Opens Business Tax Accounts to Millions More Entities
The IRS has significantly broadened access to its Business Tax Account platform, now extending it to millions of additional organizations — including partnerships, Indian tribal governments, tax-exempt entities, and various government bodies — that previously lacked access to this online self-service tool.
“Digital access will ease the burden on these taxpayers by eliminating the need to rely solely on paper forms and phone calls for routine IRS interactions,” said IRS CEO Frank Bisignano in a news release on Monday, April 6, 2026.
These newly eligible entities, which encompass federal, state, and local governments, now join sole proprietors, S corporations, and C corporations in using the platform.
A Business Tax Account serves as a secure, centralized online hub where users can manage their federal tax obligations, including:
Viewing tax balances, making payments, and reviewing payment history;
Downloading selected digital notices;
Accessing eligible transcripts (such as payroll and income);
Requesting a tax compliance check; and
Confirming the business name and address on file with the IRS.
In December 2024, the IRS first made the tool available to C corporations, a move that already expanded its reach to millions of businesses.
